Local Activities and places of interest
(and see below for pubs and restaurants)
Most people visiting the area want to visit the cliffs of Slieve League, one of the "Hidden Secrets" of the WILD ATLANTIC WAY. Standing at 1972 feet, they are among the highest sea-cliffs in Europe. You can drive to the car park from Teelin village, about 3 miles distant.

If you're a hill walker, you can go all the way to Glencolumcille via the famous 'One-man's Pass'. There's golf in Portnoo just a short drive away, via Glengesh Pass, a wonderful drive in both directions! There's also surfing and rock climbing near Muckross Head, just the other side of Kilcar village.

For the children, there is an excellent small, safe beach at Port a Chabhlaigh, ("purth-a-howley" meaning the fleet harbour), just a ten-minute walk away. There are many other beautiful beaches within half an hour's drive, Trá Bhán at Muckross Head and Fintra towards Killybegs There's also the Silver Strand in Malin Beg, near Glencolumcille. Be warned: there's 152 steps to get to the beach, so don't forget your towel. Then there's the Folk Village in Glen, started by the famous Fr McDyer.

There is a selection of trails for walkers and several opportunities for horse riding too. We are also blessed with great sea and river fishing from boats (out of Teelin, or Killybegs), off the rocks and in the local rivers, where salmon are regularly caught. Licences can be purchased locally.

We are two miles from both Carrick and Kilcar villages They have excellent pubs where traditional music is a regular feature. There is a strong fiddling tradition in the area, as well as accordion playing, singing and set dancing. Musicians are generally welcome, so bring your instrument!

There are also many megalithic sites from Glen to Killybega including a substantial site at Bavin just 3 miles away.

Pubs / music

Proinsias Cearr's pub, just over the bridge in Kilcar, is our nearest pub. Great for traditional music.

John-Joe's in Kilcar for traditional and more modern music.

Rory O'Donnell's of Meenaneary is great for traditional music and set-dancing. He also sells river fishing licences! Tell him you're staying in Jordan's in Curris!

Kilcar village hosts regular concerts of traditional music and song right through the year. Check locally.

The pubs in Carrick and the "Rusty" in Teelin also host traditional sessions from time to time. Call in and ask.
Coffee shops:

Tí Linn in Teelin, on the road to Sliabh a' Liag, does great coffee and snacks. They also have an excellent gift shop.

Mrs B's serves lovely tea and coffee and cakes, snacks and lunches, on Main Street, Killybegs.

There's a great coffee shop over the Supervalu supermarket in Killybegs. Nice lunches.

Mokler's Tea Rooms in Kilcar does lovely snacks and a great-value All-Day Breakfast.

Restaurants

Kitty Kelly's is very good, with excellent cuisine. You pass it on the way to Killybegs, about 3 mile from the house.

The Blue Haven is only open at weekends, but does excellent food at reasonable prices. Great steak.

The restaurant called "22 Main Street" in Killybegs is excellent. Great food and not too expensive.

Finally, we've heard great comments from guests recently about The Fleet, in Killybegs, although we haven't tried it ourselves yet.
